Welcome to my weekly diary charting the ups and downs of turning my Victorian whodunnit, Octopus: Octavius Guy & The Case of the Throttled Tragedienne, into a podcast. I'm its author, Michael Gallagher. Beric Livingstone is its narrator.

Where Beric is at:

Again no word from Beric, which probably means I'll get a whole slew of new chapters to review in a week or so.

Here Beric reads from Chapter 5, which in fact was the first chapter he ever recorded, tackling it as a trial run to judge the pace it should be read at and to get a feel for some of the characters. In truth he misjudged a number of them, but it did set him on the right path to get them perfect in the chapters he's recorded since.

In this clip, Gooseberry is on his way to Miss Prynn's memorial service, when he chances upon an acquaintance at the back of the church.

"They ain't cheap cos they're royal!"

Me, I spent the week doing nothing, though there may have been some extenuating circumstances for this! Clickety-click! 😉

Till next week folks, when I return to the problem of transitions!

About the Author

Michael Gallagher is the author of two series of novels set in Victorian times. Send for Octavius Guy chronicles the attempts of fourteen-year-old Gooseberry—reformed master pickpocket—to become a detective, aided and abetted by his ragtag bunch of friends. The Involuntary Medium follows the fortunes of young Lizzie Blaylock, a girl who can materialize the spirits of the dead, as she strives to come to terms with her unique gift. For twenty-five years Michael taught adults with learning disabilities at Bede, a London-based charity that works with the local community. He now writes full time.
